Yes! After watching that ridiculousness that was game 5 of the World Series, I am happy to say that the NBA season gets under way tonight. I have already alerted the peeps at work that I am out at 2p this afternoon, so I can go and get my spot all ready for the opening night double header. I can’t even concentrate here at work, because tonight starts my Lake show on the Road to Redemption from last season debacle at the hands of the Celts. So as I sit here at my desk, take a look at some stuff I found today on the boys and the League. As I find more I will share more… Can’t Wait for tip off!!!

The ‘Chip is definitely within reach these days… If you have watched the Lakers play, and seen the other contenders out there, the Purple and Gold have a really good shot at winning it all this year! They are currently in first place, they have a seven game winning streak going, and their starting center is about three weeks away from coming back, and they have a relatively easy schedule to finish out the year. This is looking better and better.

This is really good news for all of us The Wire fans, basically David Simon the creator of the Wire has been working on a show about New Orleans, he actually started before Katrina and has been working on the pilot for a few years. I haven’t posted anything else today because I cant think of anything else. Tonight is a big game, and a preview of something we will definitely see in the playoffs. The west is tight like gnat booty and I can’t wait to see them duke it out down the stretch and all throughout the postseason. This will be one year where no one will be complaining about first round series going 7 games. Here is a link to the espn.com preview of the game. If the Lakes win tonight they will be in a tie atop the pacific division. Its between these two teams and San Antone for who comes out of the west this year to take on Detroit. I say tonight will start out like most Laker games in Phoenix; the suns will get out to a large lead, the Lakers will crawl back into it toward half time, and then start out the third well. It’ll be a close game throughout the second half and it’ll come down to the last 4 or 5 minutes. But here is the thing, the Lakes are without their starting center, and this is Shaqs’ first game as a sun, this game is absolutely meaningless, but it’ll means so much. I can’t wait! Lets hope Shaq can still play, because that means we will be seeing a lot of Lakers and Suns games on ABC and TNT in the foreseeable future
Shaq plays for the Phoenix Suns. He shot out to the valley of the sun this morning and “passed” his physical. I still don’t know about this one. Apparently Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire were the two pushing for this deal and they spoke with Shaq who told them he wouldn’t let them down. We’ll see, i just can’t imagine Shaq running with them, he can’t keep up with D Wade and Ricky, how will he keep up with the Suns. This is an obvious reaction move by the Suns because they only have a year or two left of a legit shot at getting a ‘chip and with the moves the Lakers made last week, they needed to do something. They could barely beat a banged up Laker team as it is, and when the playoffs start, I think Shaq works. the Suns will have at least Shed that soft label with the addition of the big fella. Now Ayson Kidd is just about guaranteed to be traded soon. We shall see. This NBA season is unbelievable, I am so happy I bought a new TV!
The Lakers have gotten rid of the expiring contract of Kwame Brown and traded him for Pau Gasol formerly of the Memphis Grizzlies. Wow, the D might not be at the level that it was but the O is about to be craaaaazy! If we can get him playing the 4 when Andrew gets back, oh my gawd. Think about that. When healthy this is the starting five: DFish, Kobe, Lamar,Pau, Andrew and then you have Ronny,Luke,Trevor Ariza and Sasha and Jordan coming off the bench. Claude have mercy. We can now officially start talking about ‘chips again!
Take a look at the standings right now… right here… I’ll wait while that sinks in. The Lakers are in First place, not only in the Pacific Division, but in the entire Western Conference. dammit. ARRRRGGGGHHH!!! This is pissing me off right now; Kobe even stately recently that he felt the Lakers are a championship contender with the progress they were showing. People are panicking around here because now its looking like we are headed for a lower 4 seed in the playoffs. I mean if the Lakers put together any sort of losing run together they possibly could go from first place to out of the playoff. Look at it… the entire west is blocked together. The eighth place team is only 4 game back of the first, and the top ten separated by 7. Jeez, this is nervous times, let’s keep our fingers crossed for .500 ball. What’s up with the East by the way? Only the top 3 teams in the East would be able to make the playoffs in the West… what is that all about? I thought the East was back… whatever
And its not just Kobe putting up 44 shots to score 48 points because he needed to do that for the Lakers to win last night, but its more of the fact that he will need to do that for the boys to have a shot at winning now that Andrew Bynum is going to be out for at least 8 weeks due to a dislocated kneecap. What is going to hurt the most is watching a guy like Nick Collison who averages about 9 and 9 getting his season high of 24 points and 18 rebounds against the Lakes porous middle. Kwame needs to get in shape quick because at least he can defend and rebound a little bit. The Lakers were on their way to a home court match up in the playoff and Phil was on his way to a possible coach of the year trophy. This might be a rough 2 months. It is uncanny because this is shaping up just like last year all over again. Got off to a great start but then we got hit by some untimely injuries that derailed what could have been a beautiful season. damn
I knew that this weekend was going to well. Andrew Bynum went down today with what is being called a knee ligament strain in the third quarter. MRI tomorrow after the ex-rays taken at Staples came back negative. I had such a nice weekend going… went to a pub for a friends birthday on Friday, had another birthday part in Malibu Saturday, and woke up to waves crashing… then watched Dallas get beaten by the Giants and I just wanted to watch my Lakers post another W, and then it happened. I should’ve seen this coming. There were two feature stories on how well the Lakers are playing right now, on espn.com late last week. I was talking to a Lakers insider who said the only team he feared the Lakers might not beat in a series was Detroit, I felt the same way. But, without the young buck in the pivot, its another series or two and then gone to play golf. Lets hope it isn’t as bad as we all fear.
