USA Basketball puts the world back in its place…

August 14, 2008 Leave a comment

Just wait until you see this one on Sportscenter. It was about 5.20a in Cali but I was still jumping up and down making mad noise. This play was crazy, D Wade getting the steal and chasing down the loose ball, while saving it and flying out of bounds by the three point line extended he hit a streaking KB10 with the alley!!! What followed was an emphatic two hand banger that reminded everyone that Kobe can still get up when he has to.

Marvin + USA Basketball

It doesn’t get better than this for me, unless you want to count the Eva Mendes clip, but yeah, the perfect tenor of all time and the USA basketball going for redemption. I love it. Just a little background, Marvin sang this at the 1983 NBA all star game, at the fabulous forum in Los Angeles. in the Olympic spirit i decided to throw in another classic star spangled banner, Whitney Houston’s Superbowl performance after the gulf war broke out… this one gives me chills

it gets a lil dusty in the casa every time i hear that shit!

NBA All Star Weekend and a link or three

NBA All Star weekend was great! Everything went pretty much spot on, and the Game lived up to being one of the best ever after some early game sloppiness. I was happy that KB24 got only a little bit of burn and got on up out of there. NOLA looks like things are progressing some and things are looking up. Ironically looking at the entire weekend, I am feeling okay about making a trip down there because things are pretty much getting back to normal. there is still a ton of work that needs to be done, still a lot of healing necessary but the city is looking good again and the community is responding. Check out Simmons today, a great article for which I feel the exact same way. So much so that I think I am going to spend my birthday down there this year, forget about Miami.

espn the mag article with MJ as told to Ric Bucher, Mike gives a little bit of perspective on these young cats, and the state of the game and how it is in good hands, as long as these guys stay original and try not to become MJ or MAgic or Larry.

another espn the mag article with the best commissioner in sports today, the great David Stern. Say what you want about the guy but he has taken a sport choc full of brotha’s and made it in to arguably the second leading sport worldwide to futbol.

ok, one more espn the mag article about a problem particular still facing the league which is a major one, that its a league full of black players playing largely to a corporate read white audience, and how the perception, the perception is that basically all nba guys are rappers at heart who just happen to be able to hoop. its an interesting situation and one that needs to be explored and then explored some more.

The only problem I had was the Dwight Howard dunk, or throw in… It wasn’t even a dunk, and they turned the lights out so no-one could see that he didn’t dunk what was that about? Also, how does Shaq feel that DH just jacked his jacked nickname? Shaq even has a tattoo. And he should have lost because he had a superman onesie on.Dwight should have done the kiss the rim dunk right here.. . Its at the 30s mark.

It’s Official

Shaq plays for the Phoenix Suns. He shot out to the valley of the sun this morning and “passed” his physical. I still don’t know about this one. Apparently Steve Nash and Amare Stoudemire were the two pushing for this deal and they spoke with Shaq who told them he wouldn’t let them down. We’ll see, i just can’t imagine Shaq running with them, he can’t keep up with D Wade and Ricky, how will he keep up with the Suns. This is an obvious reaction move by the Suns because they only have a year or two left of a legit shot at getting a ‘chip and with the moves the Lakers made last week, they needed to do something. They could barely beat a banged up Laker team as it is, and when the playoffs start, I think Shaq works. the Suns will have at least Shed that soft label with the addition of the big fella. Now Ayson Kidd is just about guaranteed to be traded soon. We shall see. This NBA season is unbelievable, I am so happy I bought a new TV!

Mitch and the boys need to figure it out. Ayson is now unhappy and is looking to make the most of his last few years. Kobe is the best in the game but now realizes that he needs a little bit of help. Figure it out!!! Isn’t it about winning now??? Check out what Steiner is saying here in the weekend dime.

As of 12.04.2007 with about a fifth of the season gone by Bron Bron is at 30.7/7.6/8.1, Ayson Kidd is at 11.6/8.6/10.7

espn.com insider John Hollinger asks the question can they pull it off. It’s a great article that is on insider that may be gone soon. If you subscribe to insider though, you do get espn the mag for a year… which is not so bad actually. It would be a great great magazine, if there was no such thing as the Internet.

You know, I dont know what i would like to see more. As a Lakers fan, Kobe and Ayson Kidd would be crazy, but as a basketball fan i think Bron-Bron and Kidd would be even filthier! I mean Kobe would get the passes off the break and then start trying to pump fakin’ or whatever but with Bron, he might just take off on cats like KB24 used to do. Man-O-Man, I can only dream of that kind of stuff… .anyways, here is a nice article about the latter…
